From 3 until 10 July 2010, dansstudio arabesque organizes the 26th international dance course in Antwerp. What started as a small and modest course in 1985 has grown to be one of the most important courses in Europe and one of the biggest dance events in Antwerp.  This doesn’t only concern the number of participants and lessons, but also the quality of teachers and accompanists and specially the ever surprising innovative elements in the schedule.

59 different lessons a day in many disciplines, at all levels, will be given by professional teachers from Belgium and abroad.

Amateurs, semi professional and professional dancers from 8 years old can take classical ballet, pointes, classic ballet methodology, jazz, modern jazz, contemporary, Irish tap, flamenco, musical (singing and dancing), tap dance, Pilates, Afro-Brazilian dance and hip hop lessons.

New disciplines this year are: zumba, palmas, jazz methodology, dance lab, master class and Mad Flavour. At general request, this year, next to classic methodology, there is also jazz methodology for teachers of jazz dance. Palmas fits in the flamenco classes and gives an added value. The dance lab is meant for children from 10 years old, who work together preparing a little performance for which they have to answer for the choreography, the costumes and the presentation. The master class, given by an ex-soloist of the Royal Ballet of Flanders, is meant for professional students. Mad Flavour is the latest tendency and is a mixture of contemporary and hip hop. After last year‘s great success, classic ballet for contemporary dancers and yoga will be on the program again.

The repertoires of no less than 3 choreographers who are at the highest world level are organized for professional students from 18 years old. Eva Dewaele of the Royal Ballet of Flanders will teach William Forsythe’s repertoire. Luc Jacobs, personal assistant of Ohad Naharin, will scrutinize the work of this choreographer. Shirley Essenboom of the Nederlands danstheater will study the work of Léon/Lightfoot with the students. This is a unique opportunity to learn the work of these 3 leading choreographers within one and the same course. Ann Van den Broek, the laurelled Flemish choreographer, will also be at t he course.

On 9th July 2010 at 20 PM the Junior Dance C° Platform will have a performance in Taglioni hall, Meistraat 2 in Antwerp, which will be the result of a week’s intensive work round the repertoire of these choreographers.

"Irma Swynen, director of the in Flanders esteemed dansstudio arabesque, comes up with a few exquisite courses.  She follows everything closely and has an instinct for anything that can help contemporary students in the actual, very competitive dance world."
